DNAfabric’s Cloud Shared Workspaces

StorageDNA is proud to announce a cloud data sharing workflow designed specifically for organizations with a remote creative workforce. DNAfabric allows creative users to share work-in-progress media and metadata (projects, bins, sequences) across geospread distances for editorial, graphics, grading and more.

DNAfabric Controller

DNAfabric controller software is compatible with bare metal servers or virtual machines. It can be deployed on-premise or in the cloud.
OS Support: Linux (Bare metal, Virtual machine – VMware, Vbox, AWS, Azure, Google)

Private or Public Cloud Cache

DNAfabric uses an end-user provided cloud cache as the central sync storage. Examples include AWS S3, Google Cloud, Google Drive, Azure Blob, Wasabi, and Backblaze.
NOTE: On-premise object stores (S3 compatible) and SFTP caches are also supported.

Data Manager for Central Storage (e.g. Avid Nexis, Isilon, SNS, Scale Logic)

DNAfabric data managers can be installed and connected to any central storage at one or more locations. This provides sync connectivity to NAS, SAN storage.

Remote Data Manager for End User Systems

DNAfabric data managers can be installed on end user desktop and laptop systems. This provides sync connectivity to an end user.

DNAfabric Metadata and Web Management


The DNAfabric central controller provides a central management interface and metadata management. Metadata includes job stats, progress, catalogs etc. across local and remote data managers. Data managers communicate with the central controller over HTTPS and SSH ports on the customer’s secure VPN or a Zerotier network. All data managers make outbound requests with no in-bound port connectivity needed.

DNAfabric Accelerated Sync

DNAfabric data managers set up accelerated upload and download jobs from the central cloud cache. The cloud providers bandwidth and security paradigms are used. These jobs run automated and can monitor central storage (NAS/SAN) or end user storage (e.g. local and removable hard drives). Sync jobs are responsible for synchronizing media and projects incrementally to all systems that are part of the shared workspaces.

DNAfabric Distributed Locking and Versioning


DNAfabric powers remote collaboration without accidental over-writes of in-progress work. Each user in a shared workspace can share project files (e.g. Avid, Adobe, Davinci, FCP). Once shared, DNAfabric syncs project changes to all other systems that are part of the sync. Project files synced to a remote system are read locked – thus preventing the remote user from accidentally overwriting another user’s work. If project elements are needed, a remote user can be pull them in from the read only project to their local project. Additionally, versioning allows a remote user to receive project changes without their local files changing unexpectedly.

DNAfabric Media Re-Integration with Incrementals

DNAfabric allows for media re-integration to central shared storage. Re-integration is the ability to incrementally add media received on a hard drive from a remote user to a central NAS/SAN.

This feature enables a facility to easily re-integrate work-in-progress media from one or more remote users.

Media re-integration to a remote user allows for hard drives shipped to a remote user to be integrated incrementally into their local media workspace.

Re-integration also works with syncs where media delivered on hard drives will not be re-copied by the sync.
